Polina Pastirchak was born in Budapest into a Hungarian family of artists with Russian roots. She started her international career after winning the famous Geneva International Music Competition in 2009. Since that time she is singing in opera houses and concert halls around Europe.

In addition to the first prize, the public prize and three special prizes in Geneva, her talent was also recognized at the ARD Music Competition in Munich with a special prize in 2012. In 2014 she has been awarded with a star on the “Walk of Fame” for her successful Traviata performance in Szombathely, as well as the Hungarian State Opera’s “Székely Mihály Memorial Plaque” for her outstanding professional qualities.

Polina sang Partenope at the Handel Festival in Karlsruhe under the musical direction of Michael Hofstetter as well as Woglinde in Wagner’s Ring Cycle at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, staged by Dieter Dorn and conducted by Ingo Metzmacher. She is regularly appearing at the Hungarian State Opera as Mimi, Nedda, Traviata, Micaela and Desdemona for example.

She also sang with great success the leading role at the world premiere of György Selmeczi’s Spiritisti as well as Woglinde, 3. Norn and Gutrune at the Wagner Festival in Budapest under the musical baton of Ádám Fischer. Just recently Polina celebrated her triumphant role-debut as Daphne under the baton of Zoltán Kocsis and the Hungarian National Philharmonic.

Future engagements include among others Cavalli’s Veremonda at the Schwetzinger Festspiele 2016 as well as Contessa and Donna Anna at the Hungarian State Opera.

Polina is also internationally well established as a concert soloist singing for example with Radio Della Svizzera Italiana, Grand Theatre de Genève, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad where she appeared together with Sabine Meyer and the Kammerorchester Basel conducted by Andreas Spering, at the NDR Radiophilharmonie, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, as well as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Polina recently sang Verdi’s Requiem at Tiroler Landestheater as well as Mahler’s Symphony Nr. 4. with Orchestra Sinfonica di Haydn and Clemens Schuldt. Shortly she will also sing Beethoven’s IX. Symphony in Graz under Adam Fischer.

Polina especially likes to devote her time to sing song recitals. For example she performed already at the Radio France, the Budapest Spring Festival, the Marburger Konzertverein and the Tonhalle in Zürich; always accompanied by Jan Philip Schulze whom she works with since 2010.

Polina`s first portrait album was released in 2010 by the Ysaye Records with songs of Richard Strauss, Shostakovich, Bartók and Kodály.
In 2014 Sony released Sabine Meyers solo album, where Polina sings Mozart arias as well.

Dans le Salon de Pauline

Pauline Viardot – namesake of the famous soprano, Polina Pasztircsák – was one of the most charismatic musical figures of the XIX. century. The french mezzo (sister of Maria Malibran) took piano lessons from Liszt and had close friendship with Chopin arranging some of his Mazurkas as songs. Berlioz, Gounod, Saint-Saëns and Meyerbeer dedicated their opera-heroines to her.
The russian writer, Turgenev fell passionately in love with Pauline following her until the end of his life.
